About Me

Hello and welcome to my humble page! My name is Sandy and I am a teacher candidate at UBC in the 2020-2021 school year. I'm creating a blog as a way to document my journey through this program and explore my identity as a future educator.

Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge the land that I am living and learning on, the traditional and unceded territories of the Musqueam people. My husband's grandfather settled on this property back in the 1960's and I continue to borrow this land and enjoy the community where my children play and go to school. Oh yes my children! In the last six years, my primary role has been mom to two beautiful, rambunctious boys. Being a mom has challenged and changed me mentally and physically, AND it is one of the most humbling, fulfilling and rewarding jobs I've ever experienced. However, it isn't the reason why I chose this profession.

Prior to this leading role as mum, I was in the Business program at Capilano University, while working many part-time jobs to support my education. During second year, my work offered me tuition to a self-developmental course, in which I went through the most incredible transformation. I discovered how my identity was developed by past events (particularly around my upbringing) and how my 21-year-old self was living based on decisions I've made. I couldn't stop! I began the inquiry to discover who I am, taking courses after courses to uncover what my life was about. Then came the remarkably simple, yet significant moment when I decided my path to become an educator. What better way to give back to the world, by educating and contributing to the future generation, including my own?

Thank you for allowing me to share my story and being a part of this journey. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

As a teacher, I am learning along-side my students and colleagues. I am reaching out to my community for content that is relatable to the children I teach.
