As of February 2023, the My Best Buy Credit store cards carried annual percentage rate (APR) interest charges with variable rates from 28.74% to 30.74% and fixed rates from 9% to 26.34%. My Best Buy Visa cards were issued with variable rates of 15.24% to 30.74% and non-variable rates from 9.99% to 20.24%.

The My Best Buy Visa card can be used anywhere and earns rewards on purchases made anywhere. The My Best Buy Credit store card can be used only at Best Buy and only earns rewards on purchases made at Best Buy.

For $199.99 per year, or $179.99 per year for Best Buy credit card holders, membership also includes access to a concierge service that is available only to Best Buy Beta members. The Best Buy concierge team is available 24/7 by phone, chat, email or through the Best Buy app.

The My Best Buy Visa Card* may be a best buy for those looking for a way to finance large purchases from the big box electronics store or to earn rewards on everyday spending to help buy a new TV or other devices, but we feel the card offers little else of substantial value.

Beyond these terms, the My Best Buy Visa, like its store-only counterpart, offers two separate, different incentive programs. The first involves an additional reward category: With the My Best Buy Visa, cardholders who elect standard credit terms access an extra bonus category and earn 5% back in rewards on eligible Best Buy purchases. Alternatively, card account ownership may involve deferred interest financing options.

The My Best Buy Visa Card offers financing options its advertising calls deferred interest financing, but, despite some similarities, these offers are not the same as a typical credit card offer of 0% introductory APR on purchases. Like a 0% introductory period, interest will not be charged if the entire principal is paid off before the end of the promotional APR period. Unlike a typical low introductory APR period, with deferred interest financing on the My Best Buy Visa Card, regular monthly payments are required.

The card offers an array of financing options your Best Buy-only purchases must qualify for. Both merchandise type and amount spent qualify your purchase balance for deferred interest financing of a specific length. The table below shows the deferred interest financing periods available for purchase types and the corresponding minimum spend amounts.

Reward certificates may be used at Best Buy retail stores, BestBuy.com and the Best Buy mobile app, but some products, like gift cards, certain premium major home appliances and home theater products, sales tax, service charges and discounted Best Buy Business or commercial purchases or anything purchased from a nonparticipating store or a Best Buy Store via third-party marketplace like Amazon, Google or eBay do not qualify and cannot be purchased using reward certificates.

To determine the rewards potential of the Best Buy Credit Card we consider what an American household might spend on a credit card each year. Forbes Advisor uses data from various government agencies in order to determine both baseline income and spending averages across various categories. The 70th percentile of wage-earning households bring in $107,908 annually and we base spending on that number.

Forbes Advisor estimates that the household has $32,072 in expenses that can be reasonably charged to a credit card. We also assume that the cardholder choosing to hold the Best Buy Credit Card will spend at least $3,500 annually.

A cardholder with $3,500 in annual purchases at Best Buy would earn 8,750 points from those purchases, 4,275 points on gas purchases, 8,936 at restaurants and grocery stores and 10,143 points on all other purchases. This would result in total annual point earnings of 32,104, which could be redeemed for 128 $5 reward certificates for a total of $640 to use at Best Buy with a few points left over to go toward the next certificate redemption.

With a cleaner, simpler rewards structure, the Wells Fargo Active Cash is a better choice for most, but a case can be made for pairing two cards like these in order to maximize rewards for those who want the best of both Best Buy rewards and flat-rate cash back.

The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card* offers far more ease when it comes to earning rewards and much more clarity in its financing terms. Like the Best Buy Visa, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa offers a choice of rewards or financing and cardholders who choose rewards earn 5% cash back in rewards at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market with an eligible Prime membership, 2% cash back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores and 1% on all other purchases. Get 10% back or more in bonus rewards on rotating categories and products sold on Amazon.com. 041b061a72
